1930s – Doris & Berthold
In the 1930s, HPM was founded in Sydney by Doris and Berthold Herrman. After their success with a button moulding company in the 1920s, the entrepreneurial couple ventured into plastic moulding. They experimented with various items before achieving success with radio knobs, marking the beginning of HPM's journey in the electrical industry.
1950s – The Brand is Born
The 1950s marked the birth of the HPM brand as the company began manufacturing plugs and sockets under its own name. The first catalogue featured six items, and products like the All-way Rocker switches gained popularity, establishing HPM's reputation for quality and innovation.
1990s – Australian Design Award Wins
In the 1990s, HPM's Sydney-based engineering team received multiple Australian Design Awards for innovative products, including the fanlight (a combined exhaust fan and ceiling light), the Cat 90 rewireable plug top, and the super dimmer. These accolades underscored HPM's commitment to design excellence and functionality.
2007 – HPM Joins Legrand
In February 2007, HPM joined the Legrand Group, a global specialist in electrical and digital building infrastructures. This partnership expanded HPM's access to extensive research and development resources, enhancing its ability to offer a broader range of products while maintaining strict safety and quality standards.
